Have you noticed God often asks us to let go of something before He gives us what’s next?! He might tell us the very next step, but nothing more! Not where it will lead, or what will follow, or any details.
I imagine you have experienced this in your life as much as I have. I can think of little examples such as Him nudging me to stop volunteering with a particular ministry even though I wasn’t sure why, or big things like ending relationships or turning down job opportunities. We also see Jesus functioning like this when He asked His disciples to follow Him simply saying, “Come and follow me!” Not too many details involved with that invitation.
In this video, I speak to the times in life when God takes something or asks us to surrender it, or say “no” to an opportunity, even when we aren’t sure why or what He has for us instead. These can be incredibly uncomfortable times!
I want to share three pointers that I keep in mind when I find myself in this situation.
Don’t freak out! Remind yourself that if He leads you to do something, it’s for your benefit, even if it looks confusing. He knows what He is doing, and it’s okay if you don’t.
Don’t rush to the next thing or fill in the blank yourself! In my experience, creating a solution rarely helps and will probably only delay your journey! It’s okay if you are left hanging for a time… it’s painful but okay!
Remain faithful and focused on what you know to do while you wait. Even if you have significant questions hanging in the balance and big decisions on the line, many things remain steady. Stick with what you know while waiting for Him to bring more clarity.
Sometimes God takes something away or asks us to lay it down before He reveals what’s next. This is painful, but it doesn’t mean you have done anything wrong or that you aren’t right where you should be. It just means you are taking things one step at a time and waiting to discern your next step!
